This is a unique internship opportunity but not a traditional one. Opportunities exist for one-on-one counseling but clients can be challenging and working with them requires both creativity and patience. This would be a very good internship experience for graduate students considering residential treatment as a possible career path. Possible intern activities include: co-facilitating group sessions; counseling intakes; counseling with non-billable clients (Medicare, OHP non-Trillium, uninsured); completing mental health assessments for non-billable clients; and providing additional crisis counseling as needed.

Garden Place is a homelike 12-bed residential treatment facility for adult men and women with severe and persistent mental illness. All clients have been referred by the State of Oregon's Adult Mental Health Initiative and many are long-term residents of the facility.

Must be an active graduate student in a counseling program in an accredited Oregon University. Must possess a current driver's license, be approved to drive agency vehicles, and pass a DHS background check.

This is a nonpaid, graduate-level internship beginning Spring Term. Please apply online at
