ShelterCare has an exciting opportunity for an individual with top-notch communication skills, a knack for juggling multiple projects under tight deadlines, and a passion for fundraising on behalf of a nonprofit organization.

The Development Associate, working as part of a highly collaborative three-person team, will help develop and implement fundraising and marketing strategies that support the mission of ShelterCare.

This individual will develop and manage creative, comprehensive donor development strategies with the goal of establishing and maintaining strong relationships that benefit the agency. This position will research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors and business relationships.

In addition, the Development Associate assists with agency communications, including videos, blog posts, newsletters and web content; assists with grant preparation and writing; assists with event planning and community outreach, and helps develop fundraising materials including brochures and letters. 

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for support.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into captivating stories and to articulate the needs, interests, and accomplishments the agency to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, creatively, and flexibly in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to think critically, to anticipate problems and analyze solutions.
  • Engage positively and effectively with agency partners, volunteers, donors, staff, and clients.
  • Experience with video creation, layout, and graphic design a plus. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPress, and Database Management software (we use Exceed Beyond).

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience. Candidates must pass a DHS background check, possess a current driver's license, and qualify to drive agency vehicles.

Full-time, non-exempt, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend duties. $15.00/hr. plus a competitive benefits package, including paid time off and health insurance
