ShelterCare's Short Term Housing program continues to provide clients with housing and services to support the transition to permanent housing. We are in need of a kind, caring individual with the knowledge and ability to provide skills training to clients in our programs. (S)He will provide a variety of services to our clients, primarily life skills training but also including transport, and crisis intervention, and life skills training. The best candidate will have a passion for helping people with mental illness and histories of homelessness address their needs and achieve specific goals in their day-to-day lives.

In performing some of their basic duties, the Skills Trainer will:

    • Carry out specific training and support for items on service plan with clients (may include budgeting, financial management, vocation readiness, communication, self care, household upkeep, accessing services).
    • Continuously expand knowledge and understanding of community resources, services, programs, and systems.
    • Transport clients, provide supplies and resources as determined by service plan.
    • Provide crisis intervention as needed to all program clients.
    • Ensure all services provided, incident reports, and appointments are tracked following documentation standards of program.
  • Work closely with program team to determine service plan for each client.
  • Respond timely to inquiries from residents, families, other agency personnel, regulatory agencies, or external organizations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

BA/BS in a behavioral science and /or minimum three years relevant work experience, including experience working with individuals who have been homeless, diagnosed with a Serious Mental Illness, or experiencing high medical needs providing counseling, crisis management and support. All qualified candidates must have relevant volunteer or employment experience working with homeless individuals and a comprehensive understanding of, and comfort operating within the homeless community. Effective verbal and written skills. Effective computer and keyboarding skills.

Must pass Oregon Criminal history requirements. Must qualify to drive agency vehicles.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Weekly schedule: M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm. Pay rate: $14.28/hr. Competitive benefits package included.
