ShelterCare is seeking an experienced accounting professional with a passion for the nonprofit sector to ensure that the agency's accounting transactions are handled in a timely manner and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Reporting to the Accounting Manager,  the Grant, Contract and Reporting Accountant will:

  • Assist with organizational restructure as related to Sage GL chart of accounts, accounting system and budget.
  • Work with program managers to prepare and maintain grant and contract budgets.
  • Review Lane County invoices for accuracy to contract budgets.
  • Review AP invoices and provide account codes, when appropriate, for proper accounting. 
  • Prepare budget proposals for grant applications.
  • HUD compliance & reporting.
  • Attends professional development training and stays abreast of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars and their applicability to grant management related audit, federal regulations and state laws.
  • Maintain backup documents for all federally funding programs.
  • Streamline and improve the monthly invoicing process for Lane County and automate where possible.
  • Track and monitor Temporarily Restricted Net Assets.
  • Communicate monthly financial results with appropriate program staff, informing them of financial position of their grants and/or contracts. 
  • Compiles year-end reports, work papers and analysis necessary for the agency.
  • Prepare & submit all financial grant & contract reporting for county & state.
  • REAC, Federal Clearing House reporting.
  • Prepare annual property tax exemption report.
  • 990 preparation and submission - all companies.
  • Assist Controller with preparation and maintenance of agency budget.
  • Assist with monthly financial statement review.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations as assigned - General, Money Market, Payroll, Reserve for Replacement. 
  • Journal entries as assigned.
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations as assigned.
  • Assist with audits - all companies.
  • Backup for other accounting department functions & other duties as assigned by manager.

Three to five years of complex accounting and financial experience that includes demonstrated ability in all aspects of financial/audit skills. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other related field preferred. Strong computer and significant, demonstrated experience with MS Word and Excel required. 

Working knowledge of grant tracking and accounting preferred.

Must demonstrate effective communication skills to relay financial information to non-financial managers.  Ability to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules and regulations. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations related to area of responsibility.  Experience with SAGE ACCPAC for Windows preferred.  Some on-the-job lifting, pulling and twisting involved. Must qualify to drive agency vehicles and receive DHS approval. 

Full time, Monday - Friday8am - 5pm. Non-exempt, $24.50/hr. Compensation includes a competitive benefits package.
