ShelterCare provides graduate-level internship opportunities in two of our programs: Supported Housing and Garden Place Residential. These programs serve adults with a severe and persistent mental illness. The most common Master's programs that would fit this internship include Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Behavioral Sciences. We assess the skills, interests, and scholastic program for all applicants and try to find the best fit for qualified candidates.

Opportunities exist for one-on-one counseling but clients can be challenging and working with them requires both creativity and patience. This would be a very good internship experience for graduate students considering residential treatment as a possible career path. This is a unique but fairly traditional internship opportunity. Possible intern activities include: co-facilitating group sessions; counseling intakes; counseling with non-billable clients (Medicare, OHP non-Trillium, uninsured); completing mental health assessments for non-billable clients; and providing additional crisis counseling as needed.

Must possess a current driver's license, be approved to drive agency vehicles, and pass a DHS background check.
