ShelterCare has an exciting opportunity for a caring, committed and energetic Housing Retention Navigator. Fueled by an enthusiastic collaboration of five partner organizations, the Housing Retention Program will use the unique skill set of community health workers to improve housing retention for Lane County tenants struggling with untreated behavioral health issues.

The Housing Retention Navigator will work with individuals (many of whom have received a 14-day/30-day eviction notice and have behavioral health issues) who have been referred to the Housing Retention Program by Lane County property owners and managers. This person will assess and engage participants and identify issues that put them at risk of eviction; help participants create and implement an action plan that addresses the issues; and connect participants to community supports, including behavioral health providers, for treating the issues. Though the HRN will work as a member of the Housing Services for Families team, he or she must be self-confident and comfortable operating in a largely independent role in the community. He or she must have strong client-oriented personal skills but be equally comfortable working with the public, including with partner agencies, property managers and healthcare providers. Documentation, data collection and attention to detail are critical to the success of this program.

This position requires a BA/BS degree in a behavioral science and/or a minimum of three years' relevant work experience, including experience working with individuals who have been homeless, at risk of homelessness or low income; counseling; crisis intervention; and case management. In addition, candidates must possess a current Community Health Worker certification or be able to complete a certification training program within 12 months of hire. Applicants should have an awareness, understanding or lived experience with the issues facing low-income people in the community, especially with regards to housing and eviction. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills; good judgment; an ability to build relationships and work effectively with clients in crisis; and a demonstrated commitment to the ShelterCare mission and values. Applicants must qualify and be able to drive agency vehicles and pass a DHS background check.

ShelterCare has been one of Eugene's leading nonprofit agencies for nearly 50 years; we are committed to providing housing and support to individuals struggling with homelessness, mental illness, and traumatic brain injury.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. $17.25/hour.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; 10 paid holidays; generous paid time off accrual; pet-friendly environment; and employee assistance program.
